Introduction to Mind-Body Medicine and Integrative Social Work

Theory & Practice (TP) - Introduction
Join us for the launch of our Integrative Social Work Certification program with this free 1-credit introductory course. The session will cover fundamental mind-body concepts, integrative frameworks, and practical applications for social workers. Participants will gain valuable insights into how integrative methods can enhance client care, while earning free continuing education credits (CEUs).

This session is part of the larger Bridging Theory and Practice: The Integrative Social Work Certification program, which provides a comprehensive pathway for social workers to master integrative approaches while adhering to the highest ethical standards.

Program Overview: Bridging Theory and Practice - The Integrative Social Work Certification

The Integrative Social Work Certification is designed to address critical gaps in the theoretical understanding and ethical practice of mind-body medicine in social work. Developed by Dr. Joshua Hendrickson and his expert faculty at Mind-Body Wellness Long Island, this certification equips social workers with the tools to integrate holistic approaches into their practice effectively.

Training Pathways

The certification program is divided into two levels:

Foundations Training Certification:

  • 18 credit hours across all categories of practice.

  • 6 credits in ethics are mandatory.

  • This level introduces integrative social work, equipping social workers with essential skills in mind-body medicine, clinical interventions, and ethical decision-making.

Advanced Training Certification:

  • 36 credit hours, including at least 6 credits in ethics and 12 credits in an advanced training pathway.

  • Participants specialize in:

    • Theory and Practice

    • Clinical Supervision

    • Social Work Education

This advanced level builds on foundational knowledge and expands expertise with integrative, evidence-based interventions.

Addressing Gaps in Theory and Ethical Practice

Despite the growing recognition of mind-body approaches in healthcare, gaps remain in social work education. Traditional curricula often lack sufficient theoretical grounding and ethical guidance on applying mind-body interventions.

The Integrative Social Work Certification fills these gaps by:

  • Offering comprehensive training on mind-body theory and integrative practices.

  • Providing a rigorous focus on ethics, ensuring practitioners can ethically integrate these interventions while maintaining client autonomy, cultural sensitivity, and professional standards.

  • Equipping social workers with the skills and confidence to apply mind-body techniques effectively in diverse settings.

Ethical and Practical Integration

Participants will learn to ethically apply polyvagal theory, biofeedback, and mindfulness techniques, all while considering cultural, social, and personal contexts. The program emphasizes ethical, culturally responsive care that is both effective and compassionate.

By the end of the certification, participants will:

  • Have a deep understanding of mind-body theory and anti-oppressive frameworks.

  • Be equipped with practical skills to implement integrative interventions.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical decision-making in all areas of social work.
